Greenway damage report conclusions. (FOI/6823)

Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 18 December 2025

Dear *********,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 – REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REFERENCE FOI/6823

Thank you for your request for information relating to Greenway damage report conclusions..

We are now able to provide the following information:

It is my understanding that this (or these) survey(s) have not been placed in the public domain. If this is not the case, please direct me to where I might access this/these documents.
This is correct.  We are unable to share the content of the reports at this time, as disclosure may adversely affect ongoing inquiries for any ensuing legal action.
Otherwise, please provide me with the conclusion that this/these reports contain in regard to the degree of damage, and the risk that this poses to the public should they be allowed continued access to this area.
The survey identified that the main damage has resulted in a slope gradient that is, on average, twice as steep as the original slope and that the long-term factor of safety against slope instability issues is unacceptable. The report identified a significant risk that slope failure could occur without warning and that the steep gradient of the cut face also presents a risk to anyone using the greenway.  In a follow-up meeting with the engineers, they confirmed that, given the proximity of the cut face to the path, failure of the slope in the area of greatest damage would take some or all of the greenway path with it.  This informed the decision to maintain the closure of the permissive route, until the slope can be restabilised.
Please also provide the qualifications held the author(s) of this/these reports.
The survey and subsequent reporting were carried out by geotechnical engineers, with testing of samples from the damaged face and the spoil pile carried out by a specialist soil laboratory.

We trust this now satisfies your request and that you find this information to be helpful, however if you are unhappy with the way in which your request has been handled, then please email us at [email protected] quoting the reference FOI/6823 and we will be happy to review your request
