Opiate Replacement Treatment Addiction Service (FOI/8157)

Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 15 July 2026

Dear Requester,
Request FOI/8157
Further to your request received on 24th June 2026, I confirm that the Council has now considered your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Questions & Answers)
  • Is there a commissioned pathway within your local authority area for individuals with severe prescription opioid dependence (for example, codeine, dihydrocodeine, tramadol, morphineoxycodone dependence) to access assessment for opioid substitution treatment (OST) where clinically indicated

No, our commissioned service would work in partnership with Primary Care to support patients with severe prescription opioid dependence to taper their dependence. In some cases, the service will support individuals into the treatment and recovery service for opiate substitute treatment and recovery support.

  • If such a pathway exists, which service provider is responsible for delivering this treatment

Change Grow Live (CGL) in Nottinghamshire.

  • Can methadone and/or buprenorphine be prescribed for individuals whose primary dependence is on prescribed opioids rather than illicit opioids

This would be a clinical decision made by the service however first line treatment for opioid dependence is Buprenorphine within all CGL services.

  • Are there any restrictions, exclusions eligibility criteria that would prevent an individual with prescription opioid dependence from accessing OST

As stated above this would be on a case-by-case clinical decision made by the service.

  • How many individuals whose primary substance was a prescribed opioid received opioid substitution treatment within your area during the most recent 12-month period for which data is available

In Nottinghamshire we have an outcome bases contract and do not collect this data, therefore, no information held.

  • If OST is not available for people with prescription opioid dependence, what treatment pathway is commissioned for these individuals

CGL would make a clinical decision in partnership with Primary Care to support the patient into service.

We hope you find this information useful.
