State of Roads in Gedling (FOI/7195)

Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 03 March 2026

Dear ********* ******,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 – REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REFERENCE FOI/7195

Thank you for your request for information relating to State of Roads in Gedling.

We are now able to provide the following information:

1. How many Pot Hole Reports remain outstanding to be resolved in the Gedling area
There are 1,388 ad hoc inspections in Gedling Borough that have created from customer reports with a subject of either carriageway pothole or footway pothole.

Please note that this figure will continually change as inspections are completed and new reports are received.

Also note that some inspections may be placed “on hold” if the reported defect relates to third-party apparatus. For example, a customer may report a pothole, but the damage could be the responsibility of a utility company. In these cases, we are required to pass the issue to the relevant utility provider, and an inspection may remain open until we receive their response.

2. What is the longest report outstanding
After careful consideration, Nottinghamshire County Council are exempting this question under Section (12) Cost of compliance would exceed appropriate limit. The information you have requested is not held in a reportable format and would require a manual review of individual pothole reports to identify the relevant date. We currently hold between approximately 50,000-100,000 pothole reports that would need to be manually examined. We estimate it would take one member of staff approximately 2 minutes to check the reports meaning this would take us over the 18 hour limit.

3. How many pot holes have been filled in the last 12 months v the amount of pot holes reported –
The below information is for 2025 and is Countywide.

Please note that we find that the term "pothole" is used by the public to cover a range of concerns, from surface crazing and ride quality to actual defects. As many of these concerns do not transpire to what we identify as potholes, we are providing data on jobs created specific to where a void has formed in the surface that requires a high priority (Cat 1) response in accordance with Nottinghamshire County Council Highway Inspection and Risk Manual (https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/media/1729316/highwayinspectionriskmanual.pdf).

4. How much money has been spend on pot hole repairs in FY24 and FY25 YTD
We are unable to provide pothole specific spend data as pothole repairs are costed to a general maintenance budget for the whole county, jobs are not costed on a job-by-job basis or location specific for reactive maintenance repairs.

5. How many pot holes repairs have been re-reported within 3 months of the initial repair
This information is not recorded.

We trust this now satisfies your request and that you find this information to be helpful, however if you are unhappy with the way in which your request has been handled, then please email us at [email protected] quoting the reference FOI/7195 and we will be happy to review your request
