Further to your request received on 8th July 2026, I confirm that the Council has now considered your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Questions)
I am looking for data which I cannot find on your website. 

In the following years, please provide figures for:
 
  1. The number of child sexual abuse cases your force investigated during 1 Jan – 31 Dec 2020, 1 Jan – 31 Dec 2021, 1 Jan – 31 Dec 2022, 1 Jan – 31 Dec 2023, 1 Jan – 31 Dec 2024, 1 Jan – 31 Dec 2025 and 1 Jan – 30 June 2026.
  1. Please provide an ethnic and gender breakdown of the suspect for each corresponding year in a table. When it comes to ethnicity, please make clear whether it is self-defined ethnicity or officer ethnicity. If possible, please give both sets of data.
  2. Please provide an ethnic and gender breakdown of the victims/survivors for each corresponding year in a table. When it comes to ethnicity, please make clear whether it is self-defined ethnicity or officer ethnicity. If possible, please give both sets of data.
  3. Please provide the ages of the youngest and oldest child sexually abused/exploited for each corresponding year in a table.
  4. Please provide figures for the number of cases which resulted in the arrests of suspects.
  5. Please provide the outcomes of the arrests e.g., no further action, charged, sent to crown court or whichever way you record outcomes. 
 
  1. Turning to ‘group-based child sexual exploitation/abuse", in other words so-called ‘grooming gangs". In the following years, please provide figures for:
  1. The number of group-based child sexual exploitation/abuse" cases your force investigated during the following years: 1 Jan – 31 Dec 2020, 1 Jan – 31 Dec 2021, 1 Jan – 31 Dec 2022, 1 Jan – 31 Dec 2023, 1 Jan – 31 Dec 2024, 1 Jan – 31 Dec 2025 and 1 Jan – 30 June 2026.

Answer)
As a local authority, we are not a police force and do not carry out investigations into reportable child sexual abuse crimes involving members of the public. Where such incidents occur, they would ordinarily be reported to the police, who are responsible for recording and investigating these matters and would therefore hold any relevant information.

Accordingly, we do not hold the information requested for the purposes of Section 1(1)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
You may wish to direct your request to the relevant police force, which is likely to be better placed to assist with your enquiry.
