FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 – REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REFERENCE FOI/5795

Thank you for your request for information relating to request long lane pothole records.

We are now able to provide the following information:

  1. All inspection records for Long Lane covering the 12-month period prior to 18 February 2025, including the dates of inspections, findings, and any identified defects.
These can be found on the street history report attached.

        2.      All repair records for the same section of Long Lane during the same period, including:
•       Dates of any previous repairs carried out
These can be found on the street history report and the spreadsheet both attached.
•       Method and material used in each repair
Method of repairs:
Category 1 – A typical pothole repair - Sweep/clean the defected area first, then apply tack/bond coat. Fill defect with specified material in layers (if required) and compact, as necessary.

Category 2/3 - Patch repair, cut out, break out defected area then sweep clean and remove loose debris. Apply tack/bond coat then fill with specified material in layers (if required) and compact as necessary. Once compacted, seal edges with overbanding product.

Materials:
Material for repairs can depend on existing road surface but, typical Cat 1 repairs are carried out using Viafix (cold material) bagged tarmac.

Cat 3 Patch repairs are carried out using 10mm dense (hot material) surface course.
•       Location references (grid reference or similar)
Location coordinates can be found on the spreadsheet attached.

3.      All public reports or complaints about potholes or road surface defects on Long Lane in the 12 months prior to 18 February 2025.
These can be found on the street history report.
4.      The council’s current carriageway defect investigatory criteria, including thresholds for pothole intervention and classification (e.g., Category 1, Category 2).

5.      The response time policy for Category 1 defects and how this was applied to the pothole reported on 13 February 2025.
The response time can also be found in the manual linked above, when a category 1 defect is identified, if the defect cannot be made safe immediately, the defect will be repaired by the end of the next working day. How this was applied to the report references provided can be found using the table below and the street history report:

        6.      Any internal correspondence (e.g., emails or memos) discussing the reported pothole on Long Lane between 13 February and 24 February 2025.
                There isn’t any internal correspondence about either of the pothole reports received.
