Thank you for your email of 9 October 2024 where you requested information about our spending on EHCP placements at independent settings.

The information, which can be disclosed, is:

How much has been spent on independent school or education setting placements for the pupils with EHCPs in each of the last three years
 
2021 – financial year 2021-22 - £15,752,928

2022 – financial year 2022-23 - £13,319,180
2023 – financial year 2023-24 - £15,169,325

We only have this information by financial year, not calendar year, as you requested.
 
What percentage the total spend on independent school or education settings for pupils with EHCPs has been of the council’s overall spending on EHCPs and its overall high needs budget for each of the following years
 
2021 - Estimated Independent schools / education settings spend of EHCP – 30% and Independent schools / education settings spend of High Needs Block – 18%
2022 - Estimated Independent schools / education settings spend of EHCP – 25% and Independent schools / education settings spend of High Needs Block – 14%
2023 - Estimated Independent schools / education settings spend of EHCP – 23% and Independent schools / education settings spend of High Needs Block – 13%
