School Allocation Cut Off Distances (FOI/8773)

Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 22 October 2026

School Allocation Cut Off Distances.

1. Oversubscribed Schools

Information about school admissions, including whether schools were oversubscribed for a particular admissions round, is publicly available within Nottinghamshire County Council's School Information documents:

  • Schools Information 2025-2026
  • Schools Information 2026-2027

These documents include allocation summary tables showing how places were allocated for the previous admissions round, including the distance of the last place allocated for each school.

2. Community and Voluntary Controlled Schools

For community and voluntary controlled schools, Nottinghamshire County Council holds and publishes:

  • The oversubscription criterion under which places were allocated, shown within the allocation summary tables.
  • The distance of the final allocated place (sometimes referred to as the cut-off distance or distance of the last child offered a place).

This information is published in the relevant School Information documents. For example:

  • Allocation information for admissions to 2025-2026 is published within the Schools Information 2026-2027 document.
  • Allocation information for admissions to 2026-2027 is published within the Schools Information 2027-2028 document.

3. Academy, Foundation, Voluntary Aided, Free and Studio Schools

These schools are their own admission authorities.

Whilst Nottinghamshire County Council publishes the final distance of the last allocated place where this information is available, the Council does not hold a detailed breakdown of applications by oversubscription criterion for these schools.

The application of oversubscription criteria is undertaken by the individual admission authority. Therefore:

  • Information regarding the final allocation criterion under which a place was offered is not held by Nottinghamshire County Council.
  • Any further information regarding how applications were prioritised or allocated against the school's oversubscription criteria is held by the relevant admission authority and requests for this information should be directed to the individual school.

4. Home-to-School Distance of the Last Child Offered a Place

The distance of the last allocated place is published within the allocation summary tables contained in the School Information documents referred to above.

For community and voluntary controlled schools, distances are measured in accordance with Nottinghamshire County Council's determined admission arrangements as follows:

Distances are measured from the main administrative point at the school campus to an address point (using eastings and northings as defined by Ordnance Survey) at the child's home using the local authority's computerised distance measuring software.

For Chuter Ede Primary School, which operates across two sites, distances are measured "as the crow flies" to a central point between the two sites using the following coordinates:

  • Easting: 482377
  • Northing: 351425

Distances are recorded and published in miles.

For academy, foundation, voluntary aided, free and studio schools, distance measurement methodologies may differ and are set out in the individual school's determined admission arrangements.
