Disclosure Log
street lighting asset inventory (FOI/8625)
Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 29 September 2026
Dear **********
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 – REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REFERENCE FOI/8625
Thank you for your request for information relating to street lighting asset inventory, which we have dealt with under the Environmental Information Regulations, 2004 (EIR).
I am asking for the council’s street lighting asset inventory: the register of lighting columns and other lighting units for which Nottinghamshire County Council is the highway authority.
Please supply the current inventory as a data export containing, for each lighting unit, whichever of these three things the council holds:
The location, as easting and northing as latitude and longitude. Please state which, and state the coordinate system used (for example OSGB36 / EPSG:27700,WGS84 / EPSG:4326).
See attached CSV sheet, the coordinate system used is OSGB36 / EPSG:27700.
2. The asset type/unit type. I ask for this only so that lighting columns can be told apart from illuminated bollards, illuminated signs, beacons and feeder pillars, which are commonly held in the same register. Please do not filter these out for me. The type column is all I need.
See attached CSV sheet.
3. The switching/control regime for each unit: whether it burns all night, is part-night, is dimmed, and, where the council holds them, the actual switch-off and switch-on times.
See attached CSV sheet.
Lighting owned by district, town, parish councils is outside this request, unless the county council already holds it in the same register.
This list is only assets maintained by Nottinghamshire County Council.
On point 3, if the council does not hold a switching regime against individual assets but does operate a part-night dimming policy, please instead supply:
(a) the current policy document/committee report setting out the switch-off and switch-on times; and
(b) a description of which roads/areas are covered by it, and which are excluded from it. I understand traffic routes and some main roads are commonly exempt.
Not applicable, see Q3.
FORM OF THE RESPONSE
Under section 11(1)(a) and section 11(1A) of the Act, and regulation 6(1) of the EIR, I would like to receive this information in electronic, machine-readable form: CSV, GeoJSONshapefile. A copy of an existing export is entirely sufficient, so please do not produce anything bespoke. A PDF,a map image, would not meet the request.
