Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 14 April 2026

Dear Requester,
Request FOI/7699
Further to your request received on 2nd April 2026, I confirm that the Council has now considered your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Questions & Answers)
  1. What is the longest planned time between a logged defect report and actual inspection
This information is not recorded.
  1. What is the longest planned time between agreeing a repair is required and carrying out that repair
This information is not recorded.
  1. What is your process to ensure a road is made safe in under 2 hours from reporting
2-hour defects follow the ‘Emergency Category’ set out in the NCC Highway Inspection & Risk Manual (HIRM) which is available here - https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/transport/roads/highway-inspection-manual. Any defects identified as requiring a 2-hour response would have an ‘Incident Response’ or ‘Urgent Repairs Team’ dispatched to resolve the issue.
  1. For driven Section 58 inspections, do you use geolocating to log the position and sizes of potholes
All defects identified during inspections are recorded on our asset management system. The location of each defect is pinned on a map, and approx. coordinates are therefore captured.
  1. After driven S58 inspections, do you log outcomes in the highways database
The outcome of an inspection is logged on our asset management system.
  1. For driven S58 inspections, do you regularly record hazards due to vegetation, drainage, or poor road signs
Yes, where the defects are actionable in line with the NCC HIRM.
  1. What is the largest intervention criteria size of pothole before repair action is taken i.e., X cm wide, Y cm long, Z cm deep.
Width/Length/Depth are not the defining criteria, information around this can be found in the NCC HIRM.
  1. Aside from reporting defects via FixMyStreet or similar, do volunteers supplement your own officer/ contractor S58 inspections
Members of the public can report defects via the NCC website, the NCC MyNotts app, or by telephone through the NCC Customer Service Centre. Each report generates an ad-hoc inspection, which is carried out by our own Highway Inspectors.
  1. How many street sweeping machines do you have access to
None, as road sweeping is a district and borough council function. Via will engage subcontractor road sweepers for highway-related issues as and when required.

The district and borough councils and the city council will hold this information. You may have contacted these councils already in connection with your request, but if not, their contact details are below:
