care leavers supported by Nottinghamshire County Council (FOI/7073)

Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 14 January 2026

Dear *********

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 – REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REFERENCE FOI/7073:

Thank you for your request for information relating to care leavers supported by Nottinghamshire County Council. We note this is a clarification in respect of FOI 6757 and so we understand your request to be:

We are seeking numbers of care leavers supported by Nottinghamshire County Council.

As a snapshot at 31 March 2025 (or whatever date is most practical), how many

* Children who were unaccompanied asylum seekers that are now care leavers.

This information is publicly available at: Care Leavers Annual Report (see point 4).
* EU children that were once children in care, and are now care leavers.

As we stated in our response to FOI 6757 we do not record nationality in a reportable format. To find such information (if it is recorded at all) would need a manual trawl of the records. With regard to the report linked above this would mean looking through 838 records. A person"s records could range from a few dozen to several thousand pages, across many documents. Even if it took just five minutes per child it would take 69.83 hours to find and extract any relevant data. The Council is therefore exempt from providing this information under s12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 on the grounds that to do so would exceed the cost limit of £450. At a cost of £25 per hour (as set out in the Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004) 68.83 hours of work would amount to £1745.83.

Where a request is refused under section 12, we should consider what advice and assistance can be provided to help you reframe or refocus your request with a view to bringing it within the cost limit. In this case it is difficult to suggest something that would provide meaningful data. For example, restricting your request to a small number of records (whether by a specified or random range) would be unlikely to provide representative data. However, we may be able to provide ethnicity data if that would be useful to you. Please note that ethnicity data is not the same as nationality data and would not distinguish between EU/non-EU/British/non-British nationalities. If you do decide to request ethnicity data, please note that this will be treated as a new and separate request.

* Non-British children that were once children in care, and are now care leavers.

See our response above in relation to EU children.

We trust this now satisfies your request and that you find this information to be helpful.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review.
