Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 07 July 2025
Dear ***** *****,
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 – REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REFERENCE FOI/5919
Thank you for your request for information relating to Potholes.
Please accept our apologies for the delay in getting the information to you.
We are now able to provide the following information:
Please provide me with, broken down by each financial year from 2021-22 to 2024-25:
- The name of contractors/companies you have contracts with to undertake pothole repair work. VIAem
- The total number of pothole-related compensation claims.
- The total number of pothole-related compensation claims which were accepted.
- The total monetary amount paid out in pothole-related compensation.
| Number of Claims Received | Number of Claims Accepted | Total Compensation Paid | |
| 2021-22 | 660 | 27 | £80,443.78 |
| 2022-23 | 1084 | 33 | £41,189.08 |

| 2024-25 | 700 | 84 | £23,145.99 |
Please provide all internal audit reports and reviews completed since 1 January 2024 related to pothole repair work.
Via do not keep a formal record of “audit reports”, any quality control data is informally managed by their operations supervisors following the checking of completion photos of work carried out.
NCC Highways do undertake site inspections of “…patching…” sites and record the outcomes.
We do not have a subcategory of works specifically termed “pothole repairs”
These visits are not “…audits…” per se, rather they are investigations of the works ongoing at a particular location.
Please provide me with the minutes from all meetings between the relevant council’s contracts officer(s) and the relevant pothole repair team and/or contractor since 1 January 2025.
There are no specific meetings associated with this matter, any discussions would have been held informally between VIA and the relevant contractor.
We trust this now satisfies your request and that you find this information to be helpful, however if you are unhappy with the way in which your request has been handled, then please email us at [email protected] quoting the reference FOI/5919 and we will be happy to review your request
