Disclosure Log
Pothole repais quality control (FOI/7160)
Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 23 February 2026
Dear *********,
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 – REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REFERENCE FOI/7160
Thank you for your request for information relating to Pothole repais quality control.
We are now able to provide the following information:
Does the County Council inspect pothole repairs carried out by third party contractors to ensure the repair is of acceptable quality
County Council Officers would not generally do this; this task would normally be carried out by managers in Via EM Ltd. which is the Councils wholly owned arms length company.
If so, why does it appear that many repairs are temporary and the potholes re-appear shortly after the repair.
If a defect is identified which is deemed to be actionable it is repaired according to the timescales set out in the County Councils Highway Inspections and Risk Manual (HIRM).
Where time scales are of limited duration there may be no option to fill the pothole with material rather than undertake a conventional patch.
If not, why not, ensuring public money is spent effectively.
Via EM Ltd. is the County Councils wholly owned arms length company; officers in Via EM Ltd. undertake their duties in exactly the same manner as if they were employees of the County Council.
We trust this now satisfies your request and that you find this information to be helpful, however if you are unhappy with the way in which your request has been handled, then please email us at [email protected] quoting the reference FOI/7160 and we will be happy to review your request
