Dear ***** *****,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 – REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REFERENCE FOI/5292

Thank you for your request for information relating to Permanent Vacancy Rates in Social Worker Positions and Agency Spend.

We are now able to provide the following information:

How many permanent vacancies do you have for qualified social workers across both children and adults services and as a percentage would be useful – As of January 2025, there were 121.65 FTE Children’s vacant positions and 43.91 FTE Adult vacant positions. As a percentage against our qualified Social Work positions: Children’s 22.6% and Adults 18.9%

How many agency social worker staff do you currently have for children and adults services and what percentage is this against your FTE roles – As of 5th February 2025, there were 55.63 FTE agency social workers in Children’s and 26.82 FTE in Adults. As a percentage against our permanent social work FTE roles: Children’s 10.4% and Adults 11.5%.

Lastly, If known do you know what was spent on agency social workers in 2024 again in both children and adults services: There was  a change in agency provider, in May last year, and therefore we cannot access accurate figures. However, from our records, there was a total spend of £7,581,156 against qualified social work agency workers for Children’s and Adults.
