Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 25 November 2024
Dear Requester,
Request FOI/4953
Further to your request received I confirm that the Council has now considered your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
‘Please note that the expenditure detailed in each of the responses does not include:
- any highways maintenance works
- any works commissioned by and delivered by third parties (e.g. schemes or the cost of such schemes where they were delivered as part of s278 works undertaken by developers; or works carried out by district or neighbouring authorities where the funding has not been held by the County Council)
- improvements to bridleways or other Public Rights of Way improvements which cyclists are permitted to use (other than the creation of new cycling facilities).
- cost of any feasibility and scheme development work for schemes not yet under construction’
At present, there is 625 miles of cycle routes in Nottinghamshire. This includes segregated and non-segregated off-road and on-road routes, NCN routes and bus lanes.
2. Where possible, the amount of miles of cycle routes established in the past 6 years in your local authority area with a breakdown for each calendar year. This time period should include (01/01/2018-01/01/2023) and where possible (01/01/2024-28/10/2024).
The table below shows the length of cycle routes, in metres, delivered by Nottinghamshire County Council in the last 6 full financial years (2018/19 to 2023/24). As the construction of some schemes will span more that one financial year, the figures shown are based on the financial year schemes were completed.

| 2018/19 | 2019/20 | 2020/21 | 2021/22 | 2022/23 | 2023/24 | ||
| Length of cycle route delivered (metres) | 33,875 | 17,522 | 0 | 0 | 1,271 | 1,110 | 53,778 |
The County Council determines the cycling schemes it will deliver annually as part of its highways programmes report and the approved cycling improvements planned for delivery in 2024/25 are published and available to view in the ‘2024-25 Highways Capital and Revenue Programme’ report and its appendices. Details of the County Council’s Active Travel Fund (ATF) bids are also published and available to view online (although it should be noted that the scope of some of the potential schemes included in the ATF Tranche 3 and Tranche 4 bids are still subject to the necessary feasibility, design, consultation and approvals)
