Thank you for your request for information about De-icing practices of sensitive structures, which we received on 19th September 2024.  Your request has been considered under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR). The response to your request is provided below.

In your request you asked:

- What de-icing agents do you use on large sensitive structures, such as tunnels and bridges 6mm Rock Salt

- What are your current spread rates for the de-icers
10 sqm, 15sqm, 20sqm depending on forecast

- Do you follow the manufacturers guidance when using the de-icers

- Have you noticed significant issues with corrosion on these assets when using your specified de-icers

- Have you ever used other de-icing agents in the past If so, which ones, and what were the reasons for discontinuing their use

- Have you ever trialled any other de-icers
