Disclosure Log
traffic lights (FOI/5356)
Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 19 February 2025
Dear ***** *****
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 – REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REFERENCE FOI/5356
Thank you for your request for information relating to traffic lights:
1. How many traffic lights are there in your local authority as of 6th February 2025
471 traffic signal installation in Nottinghamshire.
2. How many of these traffic lights have fixed traffic light cameras (also known as red light cameras) as of 6th February 2025
17
3. How many cases of cars going through red lights were recorded by the cameras on the traffic lights in your local authority between 1st January 2023 and 31st December 2023 and 1st January 2024 and 31st December 2024
We do not hold this information. Please contact Nottinghamshire Police for this information.
4. If possible, could you provide the locations of all traffic lights and indicate which ones have red light traffic enforcement cameras
Please see attached spreadsheet for the location of traffic lights.
The location of red light enforcement cameras is exempt under S31(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. S31(1) provides, “Information which is not exempt information by virtue of Section 31 is exempt information if its disclosure under this Act would, or would be likely to, prejudice – (a) the prevention or detection of crime”. If disclosed, there is a real risk that such information could be used by road users to avoid those routes with enforcement cameras and therefore avoid penalties for improper use of the roads. While there is a public interest in transparency, we believe this is outweighed by the public interest in public safety on the roads and the encouragement of appropriate driving behaviour, and so the exemption is maintained.
