Burns Lane, Warsop - Proposed Prohibition of Driving (TRO 2285) (FOI/6678)
Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 19 November 2025
Dear Requester,
Request FOI/6678
Further to your request received on 28th October 2025, I confirm that the Council has now considered your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Questions & Answers)
1). Why was no impact assessment was conducted to understand the consequences of this closure – i.e., moving traffic from Burns Lane to other already heavily congested side roads and the A60 at school start and finish times, travelled by much younger children attending Hetts Lane Infant and Nursery School and Birklands Primary School, dropped at school by parents with very young children in pushchairs etc No information held, all considerations and actions taken are in line with the relevant legislation within the Highways and Road Traffic Act.
2). What collisions have been recorded at the junction of Burns Lane to Hetts Lane, then Hetts Lane onto the A60 and the junctions from Burns Lane with Birkland Avenue and Appleton Street Are there less or more in number or severity than on Burns Lane between Nethercross Drive, Warsop and Manor Road, Church Warsop Collision records are a chargeable service, information can be viewed online using the service provided by Department for Transport: THINK Map – THINK!, or the scale of charges for reports is available STATS19 Road Accident Data – Via East Midlands (viaem.co.uk).
3). Why was there no assessment of the problems caused by closing the route from 3 schools in Warsop to Old Church Warsop and Meden Vale along Burns Lane when having to use the A60 and the already difficult and congested junction between the A60 and Eastlands Lane in Church Warsop No information held, all considerations and actions taken are in line with the relevant legislation within the Highways and Road Traffic Act.
4). Why was no consideration given to the fact that, when the A60 is closed due to the regular seasonal flooding at Warsop Mill, there needs to be an alternate route to access Church Warsop and Meden Vale for vehicular access, including emergency vehicles No information held, any closures of the A60 would require a diversion on a road of a similar classification. The emergency service providers are included in the ongoing consultation process.
5). Why were no other traffic calming, speed reduction or temporary measures considered for this road Speed-reduction humps Lower speed limit and camera enforcement Vehicle weight restrictions Temporary one- way system at school drop off and collection times No information held.
6). What discussion was had regarding the cost benefit analysis of other safety measures versus the chosen inappropriate solution No discussion recorded.
7). Is it just cheaper to close the road and shift the problem elsewhere ( though it would still be in Warsop Parish) This is asking for an opinion, no response required.
8). At the Parish Council meeting on 20 October, the proposed road closure was discussed and *****McCormack stated that now he knows more about the area he represents, he can see why people are opposed to this closure and agreed it was not the most appropriate solution – appearing to change his original viewpoint. Does that mean that the proposal can be scrapped, altered, or significantly changed if the elected councillor doesn’t support the proposal This is asking for the opinion of the Councillor, all responses received via the consultation are collated in a report for cabinet to consider and decide whether the scheme should progress.
9). Does a Via employee with limited evidence and a narrow view of traffic around the schools in Warsop have more sway than residents, Parish, and District Councillors, who all live in Warsop Parish and use these roads and schools on a daily basis This is asking for an opinion, no response required.
We hope you find this information useful.
