Council tax and employer pension contributions (FOI/5742)

Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 28 April 2025

Dear *****

Freedom of Information Request – Ref: FOI/00005742

Thank you for your email of 23 April 2025 where you requested:

I would like to make a request under the Freedom of Information Act. Please can you tell me, during the 2024/25 tax year:

How much did you receive in council tax payments
How much did you spend on employer contributions to the Local Government Pension Scheme

Please can you send me the same figures for the four preceding tax years, so 2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24.

I can confirm that the Council holds this information.  This information is exempt under sections 21 and 22 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and is therefore being withheld.

In relation to the requested information for the years 2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24 I can confirm that Nottinghamshire County Council holds this information.  The information is exempt under Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), because the information is accessible to you, as it is already in the public domain.  You can find the requested information in our published accounts here https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/finance-and-budget/statement-of-accounts.  Council Tax income come be found in the section "Revenue Expenditure" and employer contributions to the Local Government Pension Scheme can be found in the section "Nottinghamshire County Council Pension Fund".

In relation to the requested information for the 2024/25 tax year I can confirm that the Council holds the information you are seeking.  Section 22 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 exempts this information.  This is because the information is intended for publication at a future date.  We plan to publish our draft 2024/25 accounts by mid-June 2025 ahead of the statutory deadline of 30 June 2025 at https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/finance-and-budget/statement-of-accounts.

I have considered the public interest in releasing the information you have requested earlier and the opportunity for the public to scrutinise the accounts of the council and encourage greater transparency.  I have balanced this against the fact that accelerating the publication of the accounts early would require resources to be diverted from other activities that benefit the public more for example social care.  Rushed and early publication of the accounts could result in inaccurate information being published.

Having considered the public interest, the Council’s decision is therefore to withhold the information.

Your privacy: we use your personal information such as name and address so that we can comply with our legal obligations to respond to FOI requests.  For further details about the use of information about you, please see the information handling privacy notice on our website at https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/media/4323566/informationgovernanceandinformationrightsprivacynotice.pdf.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review.  Internal review requests should be submitted within 40 working days of the date of receipt of the response to your original request and should be addressed to: Complaints and Information – Team Manager, Nottinghamshire County Council, County Hall, Loughborough Road, West Bridgford, NOTTINGHAM, NG2 7QP or [email protected].

Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision.  The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, WILMSLOW, SK9 5AF or https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/foi-and-eir-complaints/.

Yours sincerely
