Disclosure Log
Pupils excluded while awaiting an EHCP assessment (FOI/6265)
Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 11 September 2025
Dear Requester,
Request FOI/6265
Further to your request received I confirm that the Council has now considered your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Freedom of Information Request To whom it may concern, I am writing to request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000: 1. Whether your local authority record or monitor data on exclusions specifically in relation to pupils awaiting EHCP assessments 2. If so, for each of the past eight academic years (or most recent available), please provide: 2.1 The number of pupils in your local authority who were excluded (suspensions or permanent) while awaiting the outcome of an EHCP needs assessment. 2.2A breakdown of the number of such exclusions by year and type of exclusion (suspension vs permanent), if held. 3 If this data is not held centrally or cannot be disaggregated, please confirm: 3.1Whether such information may be held in case records, or if any internal reviews/reports have addressed this issue.
Q1: We don’t specifically monitor exclusions for pupils awaiting an EHCP assessment, so there’s no data to provide for Q2.
Q3: While exclusion information is recorded in individual case files and considered during EHCP assessments, it isn’t held in a reportable format. The request doesn’t ask us to calculate exclusions during the assessment period unless we already report on this, and doing so retrospectively would be very resource intensive. It would require manually matching exclusion dates with EHCP assessment timelines.
We hope you find this information useful.
The Council publishes Access to Information requests and responses on its online Disclosure Log. Only requests deemed to be in the public interest will be included and any request included within this log will be de-personalised accordingly.
