Message from Nottinghamshire County Council - 06 July 2026
Dear Requester,
Request FOI/8156
Further to your request received I confirm that the Council has now considered your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, please provide me with the following information regarding potholes within your local authority area.
To assist with your search and ensure data is easily comparable, please provide data for the last three financial years: 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/2026.
1) What was the total number of individual potholes reported to the council by members of the public during each financial year
The table below is the total number of individual reports received with a subject of ‘Carriageway Pothole’, please note reports could be for one or multiple defects.

2) How much did the council spend in total on repairing/filling potholes during each financial year
We are unable to provide expenditure information specific for potholes. Potholes are funded from a general highway maintenance budget which covers a range of repairs for different types of defects.
2a) Of the total spend identified in Question 2, how much was spent specifically on temporary patches (this might be referred to as make safetemporary repairs)
As per question 2, however we do not record pothole repairs as permanent/temporary so this wouldn’t be possible anyway.
3. What was the total monetary value the council paid out in successful compensation claims for vehicle damagepersonal injury caused by potholes during each financial year
| Year | Total Value Paid in Compensation |
| 2023/24 | £258,175.51 |
