Thank you for your request for information relating to Pothole repairs, which we have dealt with under the Environmental Information Regulations, 2004 (EIR).
1. What are the criteria for deciding a pothole should be repaired
Repairs are ordered following inspections which are carried out following the NCC Highway Inspection & Risk Manual (HIRM) - https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/transport/roads/highway-inspection-manual
2. Are these decisions made by Via/the Council If Via, does the Council have any oversight
Inspections, work ordering, and the delivery of highway maintenance works are undertaken by Via East Midlands on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council. Typically oversight would be carried out by Via EM on the County Councils behalf. Via East Midlands Ltd is a company wholly owned by Nottinghamshire County Council.
3. How much was spent on repairing potholes in Gedling Borough in 2024
This information is not held. Maintenance budgets are county wide and can not be split down on a job-by-job basis or specific locations.
4. How much was spent on repairing potholes in Nottinghamshire in 2024
We are unable to provide pothole specific spend as it is costed to a maintenance budget which involves other general maintenance repairs.
5. How much was spent on repairing potholes in Gedling Borough in 2025

Via is not paid on a job-by-job basis, maintenance repairs are completed using a budget provided by Nottinghamshire County Council which is managed by Via.
9. Who checks the quality of road repairs
Via conducts quality checks on its own teams and it’s sub-contractor partners.
10. Why are some pothole-pocked roads patch-repaired when total resurfacing is required

11. How effective is the repair method of putting grit into a hole and stamping on it On average, how long do these repairs last
The County Council does not use this repair method.
12. How many potholes were re-reported in Nottinghamshire in 2025 due to failed repairs
This is not recorded.
13. How much of the extra ring-fenced funding given by the government to repair roads has been spent Where has it been spent

14. Who is the councillor/officer responsible for repair decision
